Hello all.  I am new to the site and I just finished doing my 100 hour maintenance on my 4 cyl. 150.  I completely drained the oil and I added 6.3 quarts of Verado Synthetic.  After running the engine with the hose attachment for about 5 minutes, I checked the dipstick and I got a very low reading.  I waited 10 minutes and check again and the reading comes up halfway up the stick (below the hash marks).  Am I low?  Am I leaking?

Please help.  thanks.

If you in fact put 6.3 qts. of oil in, You are where you need to be....Tilt motor up as Glen mentioned and re check in 10 minutes and you will be above the 1/2 way mark on the hashe marks....Do not keep adding oil until you have done this or you will over fill it....There is much written here on oil levels and over filling ....It is one of the most common mistakes made by new Verado owners...

Got it.  Thanks guys.  So basically, there are 6.3qts of oil in the motor, it's just not "in the right place" which is why I get a low reading on the dipstick.  Correct?

Read and reread the link Glen posted.
The oil level is not like in a vehicle, where some may want it at or near the top of the hash marks.
Tilt-wait-tilt-wait-check.
Having it at the bottom 1/4 is fine.
Don't over think it.

The design of the sump and what we have to do just to check our oil and get an accurate level here in 2010 is, admittedly, quite "wack", but we have to do it that way.

The tilt, wait, tilt, wait, a real PITA but, we do it for love.

For normal monthly checking, I have actually found if you tilt up wait a min and then tilt down, that's enuf to get a reading that is 98% accurate.

It's only multi-tilts needed when filling and checking.

After running the engine with the hose attachment for about 5 minutes,

Do you mean you ran the motor using the on board hose flush out attachment?  If that's what you did, I thought you weren't supposed to do that??  Some one help me out here, isn't that a no-no?

book says you can run for 5 min (page 129)to recirculate the oil after a fill...

page 104 says engine off for a flush which is recc'd for 15 min....
