Title: No get up and go on my 2005 Verado 250 (300 hrs)
Post by: Flgator100 on October 12, 2019, 07:11:55 pm
I am having a problem with the take off to get up on plane. I took it out yesterday and  it got on plane the first time fine and when I slowed down for the no wake zone, it would not jump back up on plane. If I punch it, it will slowly work itís way back up on to plane but it takes a while. It does not have the normal excellent hole shot. The only thing different is that it has a low idle that is a little rough.I replaced all the fuel filters, I see no leaks or damage to the supercharger or itís isolator. I check all my coils and they are fine. I have went through and read a lot of the sources and posts on here and most of them point to the coils. They were all replaced last summer along with the spark plugs and I checked them the way I was shown on here by running it up in neutral to 1200 rpm and unplugging them one by one to see if it dropped in power. It has me a little baffled. Thanks

What is your current wide-open throttle rpm with this problem?

I will run it again this afternoon and check that.

Check/replace the spark plugs before doing too much else.  Plugs can foul somewhat easily on these motors.

Sounds like a fuel restriction.
Did you drain the castle filter canister? Possible water in there?
Do you have the original FSM housing? There is a drain on that. Remove it and capture what come out to examine it.

This is very sound advice, for many reasons, here is why and what I have learned over the years;

It was at least 3-4 seasons ago.  I was having the intermittent running issues, not going over 4,000 rpm, not going over 5,000 rpm.

I changed ALL the coils with the new ones.  I changed the isolator as it was cracked and while things got better, there was something holding the motor back.  I must have gone through $100 worth of fuel filters thinking they were getting fouled really quick when I got on here/Veradoclub and had mentioned the above, and it could have well been thunderstruck who suggested it, but the spark plug change was all it took after all the new parts I had been putting on the engine and after the plug change, my motor was back to 100% power.

I have since seen something on the NGK site where the "precious metal" that lives on the very tip of the inside of the ground electrode wears away and the plug will no longer fire without that metal present on the ground electrode.  It may even be hard to see if this precious metal has been blown/worn away on the electrode, just that it has and one can no longer get to WOT and have other running issues.

It could be the plugs but thankfully they are easy to replace and not too expensive, they are still pricey but at the same time they do last a while.
